Turks & Caicos

Regions

The carbonate banks of the Turks and Caicos Islands rest on oceanic basement. The banks formed in the Late Jurassic in shallow waters and are faulted and tilted in response to continued the subduction of the North American plate under the Caribbean plate.

Globalshift considers the stratigraphy to be unfavourable for oil and gas potential onshore. There may be some potential for gas offshore in deep waters on the southern side although no drilling has been carried out.
