The San Antonio marginal gas field in Echague, Isabela is operated by PNOC and was the first gas discovery in the country. With reserves of just 0.08 bcm, it was developed as a demonstration project supplying gas to a 3-MW power plant for rural electrification. The field was abandoned in 2008.

The most significant discovery is the offshore Malampaya field found by Shell and Occidental  in 1992 under Service Contract 38 (SC 38). The field lies on the the Camago-Malampaya trend in 820m of waters, 80 kms off the coast of Palawan Island. It had proven reserves of around 76 bcm of gas and 85 mm bbls of condensate and began commercial production in June 2002 to fuel 2700 MW gas-fired power plants in Batangas.

Forum Exploration operates onshore Service Contract 40 (SC 40) containing the Libertad Gas Field in the northern half of Cebu Island plus part of the Tanon Strait to the west and the Visayan Sea to the north. In 2009, FEI and DESCO signed a Gas Sales and Purchase Agreement (GSPA) for the development of the field for power generation and production began in 2012 until abandonment in 2015.
