Aug 2026: Talos Energy has taken operatorship (80%) of a 4-million-acre offshore block containing shallow and deep waters including untested deep water Miocene prospects within a working petroleum system. The existing owner, CaribX, retains 20%. It plans to acquire 3D seismic data later in 2026.and may participate in an exploration well.

Aug 2015: Fugro has been awarded a contract by BG to carry out a multibeam echosounder survey and seabed coring campaign. The program will cover an area of the Patuca Basin in the northern part of BG’s block.
Mar 2015: A gas pipeline between Mexico and Guatemala will be extended to reach Honduras. The 600km, US$1.2bn gas pipeline was announced by Guatemala in January 2014. The cost would be around US$400mm.

Jan 2014: BG will soon begin exploration off the Atlantic coast with an investment of at least US$20 mm. Authorities plan to give the company an environmental licence for the company’s 35,000 sq km block off the coast of La Mosquitia bordering Nicaragua. The initial exploration period will focus on reviewing existing data and conducting a gravity survey.
2013
Sep 2013: BG Group hopes to drill the first well offshore Honduras since 1979 as it explores a new frontier play. The company has taken over operatorship of a 35.000 sq km area overlying two basins; the Patuca and the Mosquitia.
Jan 2013: A memorandum of understanding has been signed by the BG Group with the Honduras Government to explore a block covering 35,000 sq kms of the Mosquito Coast bordering Nicaragua.
