South and East Africa
Regions
The Arabian Shield geology of Djibouti has no petroleum potential, onshore or offshore, however small companies are evaluating potential prospects in intra-continental sedimentary basins that extend into the extreme south of the country along the border with Ethiopia.
History
Djibouti has no history of production and no oil and gas exploration wells have ever been drilled onshore, or in its Red Sea and Gulf of Aden waters. Although geophysical studies are being carried out to evaluate the possible extent of sedimentary basins in the south of the country,
Globalshift does not forecast any future production of oil or gas from the country.
Djibouti is planning to export LNG using gas piped in from Ethiopia’s Ogaden Basin.
